Emperor of Ethiopia from 1314 to 1344

Amda Seyon I, also known as Amda Tsiyon I (Ge'ez: ዐምደ ፡ ጽዮንʿamda ṣiyōn, Amharic: አምደ ፅዮንāmde ṣiyōn, "Pillar of Zion"), throne name Gebre Mesqel (ገብረ መስቀል gäbrä mäsḳal, "Servant of the Cross"), was Emperor of Ethiopia from 1314 to 1344 and a member of the Solomonic dynasty.

He is best known in the so-called chronicles as a heroic warrior against the Muslims, and is sometimes considered to have been the founder of the Ethiopian Empire. According to multiple commentators, Amda Seyon's chronicles appear to be highly unreliable as it was written a century after his reign and conflates conflicts involving successive Ethiopian emperors.

Most of his wars were against the Muslim sultanates to the southeast, which he was able to fight and generally defeat, and substantially enlarge his kingdom by gradually incorporating a number of smaller states. His supposed conquests of Muslim borderlands were said to have greatly expanded Christian territory and power in the region, which were maintained for centuries after his death. Amda Seyon asserted the strength of the new Solomonic dynasty and therefore legitimized it. These expansions further provided for the spread of Christianity to frontier areas, sparking a long era of proselytization, Christianization, and integration of previously peripheral areas.

According to British historian Edward Ullendorff, "Amda Seyon was one of the most outstanding Ethiopian kings of any age and a singular figure dominating the Horn of Africa in the fourteenth century."

    HalfmItri, chill down Agewinay, this midribejan writer is probably half your age, but he knows the authentic history of TPLF more than anybody else in this forum. I know you were a dergue Militia, but I do not think you know the history of your captors,Arkebe and co.
    To begin with, you should know, this midribejan is not your "Abel Qomal". This Midribejan, unlike you, does not fabricate or falsify any history either.This Midribejan author saw many TPLF videos, in which Arkebe was holding the title of TPLF's vice chairman. For Example, vice chairman Arkebe led the debate (infighting) between Meles ( the top cadre working under Abay) and Gidey Zeratsion ( the excecutive committes's whip).
    Before TPLF created departments, every one of its leaders was considered a military commander. Therefore Aregawi, Musie, Tsadqan, Arkebe , Seye ,Agazi , Sehul , among others, became accomplished commanders . Aregawi ,Seye and Arkebe were the top of the list. At that time the famous TPLF military commanders like the qelebets, the spanatos, the Hayeloms, the KuHlens, the TadesseGaunas, Gurezas, Berhe-Shabias etc, used to be supervised/ led by the aforementioned politico-military commissars, and at one point, arkebe was ranked top among the latter. Moreover, from the authentic TPLF history that I read a few years ago, I came to know that, among other resons, because the EDU considered Arkebe and Aregawi as its top enemies, it used to call TPLF as a front of Argewai and Arkebe. Arkebe was even more popular and fearsome in Shire than Aregawi, though the latter used to be feared more than Arkebe elsewhere in Tigray.
    That is why the outlaws of Shire and Welqayit were shocked and awed by Arkebe's military skills and came up with the melancholic song:
    SeriHna keynbelee, Aedawna lemetse;
    Seriqna kenbelee, Arkebe Endo'Metse!
    EzinWedeHankan; Tekuwan Agewinay
