Who is Jotta A, The Singer Who Was Successful in Gospel before Finding Out She Was Trans
Before arriving at "Eden," Jotta A went through a private hell. Today she is the singer and songwriter who, with the help of Rafael Castilhol, a music producer with Anitta and Ludmilla in her portfolio, is releasing a song named after the garden in which Eva and Adão disobeyed God and tasted the forbidden fruit.
Jotta knows the taste of fame well. This is from the time when she was a singer and songwriter who, with the support of Silas Malafaia's record company, Central Gospel Music, accumulated so much recognition that she was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2014 in the Christian music category in Portuguese.
For the millions of Brazilians who listen to gospel music, she was the skinny boy revealed by the presenter Raul Gil's program, a powerful voice that moved the faithful.
Before becoming a transgender woman, she knew that "traditional Brazilian family" talk was not the practice experienced by many church grown-ups. "I've seen many pastors take mistresses, and I've done those things too. The motto was – do it, but do it half-hidden."
Jotta took the time to understand that she was a trans woman. This only happened in 2020, during the pandemic. She was living in Colombia on a local mission at the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis. Alone there, she beat depression.
But then came deliverance. Jotta realized that, in social isolation, she could wear whatever she wanted. She had a drag queen neighbor who had given her a denim skirt almost to the knee. It was the first female play of many that followed.
