    Sufism is the name given to the mystical movement within Islam; a Sufi is a Muslim who dedicates himself to the quest after mystical union (or, better said, reunion) with his Creator. The name is Arabic in origin, being derived from the word suf meaning “wool”; the Sufis were distinguishable from their fellows by wearing a habit of coarse woolen cloth, in time when silks and brocades had become the fashion of the wealthy and mundane-minded, symbolic of their renunciation of worldly values and their abhorrence for physical comforts.

    The ascetic outlook and practice, an indispensable preparation to mystical communion, characterized the life not only of Mohammad himself but of many of his earliest followers. Even when the rapid spread of Islam and the astonishing military conquests of neighbouring ancient kingdoms brought undreamed-of riches to the public exchequer, not a few of the leading men in the new commonwealth withstood all temptation to abandon the austere life of the desert, and their example was admired and emulated by multitudes of humbler rank. Nevertheless with the passage of time, and as Islam became increasing secularized consequent upon further victories and rapidly augmenting complications of state craft, the original ascetic impulse tended to be overwhelmed in the flood of worldly preoccupation.

    Farid al-Din Attar, author of the book Tadhkirat al-Auliya here presented in an abridged translation, is to be accounted amongst the greatest poets of Persia; his dimensions as a literary genius increase with the further investigation of his writings.

    Masuma Anwar is a multi-talented person who is a well-known musician and songwriter with melodious vocal cords. In between her passion, she kind-heartedly performs medical practices for children as a pediatrician. Her famous melodies are "Ve Asaan Tenu Ki Akhna," "Ve main chori chori," and "Neyu La Leya."She acquired her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Frontier Medical College. She received her medical degree in 2011 and went on to release three more albums: "Nigah-e-Karam," "Apna Mukaam Paida Kar," and "Kamli," with "Kamli" earning her extra exposure, including a nomination for Best Emerging Talent - Music at the 15th Lux Style Awards.

    Before that, she released her critically acclaimed debut album "Dhola" in 2008. Her passion for singing was inspired by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Abida Parveen, Ustad Muhammad Juman, and folk singer Reshma. Masuma Anwar's first film was "Cocktail" in 2012 and got critical acclaim for her song "Luttna." She has also contributed to the film Maalik by making a hit song called "Naina Roye. " She also made her Coke Studio debut as a featured artist during the ninth season. Masuma was recognized for her talents in music. She got the nomination for Female Best Singer and Best Breakthrough Performance in 2006. She also won the Best Emerging Talent award in 2015.

    Strings (Urdu: اسٹرنگز) was a Pakistani pop/rock band composed of two members, plus four live band members from Karachi, Pakistan. The band was initially formed by four college students—Bilal Maqsood (vocals and guitars), Faisal Kapadia (vocals), Rafiq Wazir Ali (synthesizer) and Kareem Bashir Bhoy (bass guitar)—in 1988. In 1992 the quartet disbanded, only to make a comeback with Maqsood and Kapadia in 2000. While the initial band rode the new wave of Pakistani pop music, the later lineup ushered a revival in the Pakistani music industry.

    In 1990 the band signed with EMI Records and released their debut album, Strings. Their initial experiments with synthesized sounds and rhythms were not immediately recognised, although Strings sold 20,000 copies during its first week after release. Two years later the band released their second album, 2, which included the critically acclaimed single "Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar". The song was first aired on MTV Asia, and led the band to widespread fame. After the release of 2, the quartet disbanded to focus on their studies and careers. In 2000, Maqsood and Kapadia released Duur, which revived the band's popularity, and followed it with Dhaani in 2003. This album included the single "Najane Kyun", which was part of the soundtrack for the Hollywood filmSpider-Man 2. Following Junoon and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Strings went to India (where they found remixes of one of their early songs playing in clubs). In 2008 Strings released their fifth album, Koi Aanay Wala Hai, with the singles "Yeh Hai Meri Kahani" and "Aakhri Alvida" (included on the soundtracks for Bollywood's Zinda and Shootout at Lokhandwala). The album was co-produced by Bollywood actor John Abraham, and was successful in Pakistan and India.

    Unoosha started singing at a very young age. Her parents are music legends in Maldives. Her mom and dad used to rock the stages when music really began to evolve in the heavenly islands of Maldives.

    The inter School Music competition back then was the number one show for upcoming and talented singers. It started way back and a number of great singers during this time evolved. Unoosha started off singing since she was 6 years old. She competed in every inter school competition and despite her great vocals didn’t win a place in the top 3 but mostly she made it in the top 5.

    It all changed when she sang the Dhivehi version of "Careless Whispers" by George Michael on stage on her Eighth grade Inter School Music Competition. She won second place in the competition which proved to be the turning point. Next year she rocked the competition with the Maldivian version of "Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston. She won the well deserved First place and many offers started pouring in from the music producers to sing for audio albums. During the next 2 years she competed in the Inter School Music Competition She won 1st place in a row and became the first ever female vocalist to win the competition 3 times.

    Her career blossomed, and she started singing for numerous albums. Her most desirable type of music is her own creations but it was restricted because she wanted to support her family.

    After a year since she finished the tenth grade she took up an offer from a local Music band called "AMAZON JADE" and worked with the band for 4 years. The main focus of the band was to play resort music, so she was on the move a lot. Her farther-like figure Mr. Naseer took care of her during the four years in the band and it was like losing a father for Unoosha when Mr. Naseer passed away in 2007. It will be a day Unoosha will never forget for the rest of her life.
