Meet our Scholars
I pursued my Bachelor of Accountancy degree from 2011 to 2015 at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), which was a constituent college of the University of Malawi at that time. I was awarded the degree with credit.
I have proficiency in investment and financial analysis, portfolio management and financial risk management. As a member of the ACCA and having worked in esteemed professional firms for seven years, I am also adept in financial reporting.
It was during my tenure in providing assurance service that I became acutely aware of and quite troubled by the array of risks facing financial markets in Malawi. I perceived a potential lack of capacity to navigate the hurdles that were looming from exposure to such a spectrum of risk, and I hoped to position
myself by gaining proficiency before the risks surfaced. Unfortunately, as of 2023, some of the latent systematic risks have begun to emerge. In brief, my pursuit of the MSc Investment and Finance was guided by these reflections.
As I completed my MSc, it became quite clear to me that the influence I hope to effect demands one to be an authority in the subject matter so as to inspire confidence and drive action at national level. Consequently, I decided to embark on a journey in research focusing specifically on geopolitical risk, which has become my primary area of academic interest.
The Beit Scholarship marked at a pivotal moment in my professional odyssey. I was a chartered accountant with extensive experience in assurance services. I was diligent in my delivery of insights to clientele and in my pursuit of excellence, but I felt like my impact in the industry and society was not substantial.
The Beit Scholarship was the key that unlocked my latent capabilities. During my MSc studies, I was not only privileged to receive financial support but also garnered recognition through prestigious awards, including the Overall Excellence Performance Award, the Bashorun

Kusama was raised in Matsumoto, and trained at the Kyoto City University of Arts for a year in a traditional Japanese painting style called nihonga. She was inspired by American Abstract impressionism. She moved to New York City in 1958 and was a part of the New York avant-garde scene throughout the 1960s, especially in the pop-artmovement. Embracing the rise of the hippiecounterculture of the late 1960s, she came to public attention when she organized a series of happenings in which naked participants were painted with brightly coloured polka dots. She experienced a period in the 1970s during which her work was largely forgotten, but a revival of interest in the 1980s brought her art back into public view. Kusama has continued to create art in various museums around the world, from the 1950s through the 2020s.
